Large & Extended Family Portraits
Photographing a large family takes more planning than simply getting everyone into one frame. I photograph multi-generational families throughout Albany and the Capital Region, including grandparents, adult children, grandchildren, siblings, even pets! and multiple households gathering together.
During the session, I help organize everyone efficiently so we can photograph:
- the entire family together
- grandparents with grandchildren
- grandparents with their adult children
- individual households and couples
- siblings and cousins
- smaller combinations that are meaningful to your family

How many people can you photograph in one family session?
I photograph both small and large families. For larger groups, I plan the session carefully so we can photograph everyone together as well as smaller family combinations.
Can we do both the full family and individual household groupings?
Yes. We can photograph the entire family together, then create smaller groupings such as individual households, couples, siblings, grandparents with grandchildren, and other combinations that are important to you.
Can I include my pet in the family session?
Absolutely. Pets are part of the family too. Dogs and other well-behaved pets are welcome in family sessions, and we can include them in the full family portrait as well as a few photos focused just on them and their people.
What should a large family wear for photos?
I recommend coordinating rather than matching. Choose a few complementary colors and avoid having everyone wear identical outfits. I’m happy to help with clothing suggestions before your session.
Do you photograph family reunions or milestone gatherings?
Yes. Family reunions, anniversaries, milestone birthdays, and other gatherings are a great opportunity to create portraits of the whole family while everyone is together. On location and in a studio environments.
